Mine didn't bounce, So I sure hope they got it

Good luck everyone!

And since the workshop isn't closed yet(?) I hope we can still make something nice and fancy (like how I'm intending to finish the piece I was working on at first)

@ Minami Yeah, i figured thats how I would know if it sent. I got like 4 emails saying they couldnt get my email or something, then i sent it one last time and didnt get a failure email back.. so i hope its in! I hope I attached it right (little paper clip with the attachment icon? ).

... let me double check my email. >.>

Also, everyones stuff looks so great some really awesome costumes and pieces.

Stouda, that looks friggin amazing. I really like your style, its sort of what I want to (one day) aim for with painting (traditional and digital). I think the first leap is more realism and less cartoony feeling. Any suggestions, based on my painting [considering this is very likely the best application of my painting skills as of yet] on where I should start to look for improvements/changes?

Also, a little unrelated, but what do you suggest for going from pencil-->digital? It never works out for me, and is a big hurdle for painting digitally.

Anyways, i'll be posting a higher resolution/unwatermarked copy of my painting as soon as the clock strikes 3:00 (eastern timezone).

Yes after submitting it felt too messy to me too, I was in a real hurry to get it all done in time.
I had to hurry for work and had my kids running around (no ideal situation having multiple fragile sculptures on the table)
In the end I was just happy it was in the mail and hope they can see beyond the clutter

@Rends, no i mean frog perspective or dog, or w/e it's called, basically you put the statue on the edge of a table, kneel down to the front/side and shoot upwards making the statue look huge...

@Thistle & Rends, i didn't say Rends was messy? i found odinious one a bit messy with a lot of detail shots, way to busy. Rends was actually a bit boring with just pics from side to side, i am fairly sure that if he takes two new pictures from the low viewpoint and makes the front shot the center, to then put a few details here and there (basically where the main shots are empty. The whole picture looks more interesting while not compromising a viewer from seeing what he made and the details of it...

In my study for ID (industrial design) there were actually a couple of lessons in various courses dedicated to presenting 'a product' in a collage. Tbh i can't recall all the details and feedback from those lessons, but some things stuck:
- Don't just take shots, try and find the best angles for your product, and make it stand out.
- Take general and detailed pictures
- Mix and match these pictures to present your product in an interesting way. people first see the whole thing, a to busy or to boring total-collage will actually set their first impression, thus if you give it an interesting whole look people will be more prone to check it out for it's details... and that is exactly what you want

Now this may not be an exact science, and every product is different, has different angles and thus different collages will emerge. But if i'm not mistaken there was actually a course 'product photography' (which i didn't take), that had a lot more things to say about how to present your object at it's best. Thing like lighting, reference sizes with filling objects (f/e a pen and notebook next to a desklight to give both size as well as context references).

Thus i am not saying either of Odinius or Rends overview shots were bad ... but that they can improve them by making some choices and doing something interesting with how they present their final work.

Arghore@ Ah, gotchya. I'm not sure I can do anything different for the official contest seeing as there's less than 10 minutes left, but I'll consider trying some different shots for the unofficial once I've taken a break. We had bought a new camera for this and I think I was most focused on making sure I could see the object and its details without the shots coming out blurred. I definitely appreciate the suggestions/feedback though.

Well my wording was a bit confusing as I started with 'the same for rends' ... :P ... with which i meant the same as far as placement and choices for general view and details are concerned ... so yeah, no biggy ... gave me a opportunity to spend some more words on it

Rends, nah don't start messing for the official contest, but seeing you got a new camera just go wild with it and give it a spin, then try and see if you can take my feedback and do something interesting for this workshop

Same for Odinious tbh. kick the kids outside and spend some time messing about with the pics you have, and remember 'less is more' ...

The practice you both can have here for a few hours untill the 22nd for this workshop will help you next year or on some other project, that's why this is a 'workshop' and not a 'contest', the emphasis is on improving through feedback

Wow, I thought I submitted this reply already, apparently I switched tabs and forgot about it...

Well, seeing as the deadline went already, I won't be submitting my work to the official contest. Some things didn't work out as well as I hoped, and I didn't manage to figure out how to make up for that. I'll still be working on it, though. (And if it's about the prizes, I think the GWG contest has better ones anyway.)

Now that the official contest has ended, here it is:

Details:
Acrylic Paint on 6 Cardboard Binder Inserts
51.75cm x 81cm
(21in x 34in approx)
titled: Confrontation

The photograph is iffy, so the levels are adjusted in PS and shtuff. Little glarey in parts but with a painting this size and the fact it cant be proped upright, was the best I could manage. Hope anet likes it!

Edit: Food for thought; here is my entry from last year. Think i've improved a teeeeency bit since then!

>.> Does anyone know if there's a way of getting Anet the correct version of your contact information if something was not correct/accurate in your initial submission?

And the Contest FAQ says: " Incomplete entries are invalid, and entrants with incomplete entries will be disqualified." Does that mean if I didn't include my gamer handle, that I'll be disqualified? The wording in the rules made it sound like you only needed to include your handle if you wanted to be known by it rather than your name. I got so focused on the just getting it on time that I feel like I fudged up so many small things.

As far as I know, the handle is not necessary. The necessary info is First/Last name, Age, Mailing address, email, and ofcourse the art. The handle is totally optional.

Its essentially if you win do you want "Rends with Tongue" or "John Doe" to appear under your piece? Doesnt change if they want it or not.

Death by an arrow@ Ah, ok. Well I think that my e-mail auto-filled my address with a relative's; while it's local, I don't want things to get kicked back to me because of it.

Like your mailing address? I think thats more so for purposes they have somewhere to send any prizes won. So if it is a relative of yours, it simply means that after you fill out the paperwork they email you (ive never recieved it, so i dont know what its about) you just have to pick it up from them.

I think. :/

Hm. I just didn't want them to think I was a scammer or something since my girlfriend and I both live together and submitted separate works. She of course was better at filling in her details than I was. :/
